There are many signal styles of colorful LED light strips, but generally speaking, they can be divided into SPI colorful LED light strips and DMX512 colorful light strips.

At the beginning, all the colorful products were DMX512 products, which were patented and had a special DMX software system to control the lights. The equipment was expensive and few people knew how to use the system, which greatly restricted the development of colorful products.

Later, based on the performance of DMX512 light strips, some companies in the market designed SPI signal products with similar effects, which could break the patent restrictions of DMX512 and were cheaper. Soon, SPI products became popular in the market.

According to the position of the IC, SPI light strips can be divided into built-in IC and external IC RGB led strip.

According to the voltage, it can be divided into 5V, 12V, 24V DC .

According to 2 wires or 3wires, it can be divided into breakpoint resume light strips and non-breakpoint resume light strips

According to the color of the light strip, it can be divided into white light, two-color, RGB, RGBW and RGBWW fantasy light strips

According to the direction of lighting emit, it can be divided into top view lighting and side view lighting fantasy led.

In general, SPI can meet most of your functional requirements, so if there is no special requirement, you only need to choose the right one from the SPI fantasy light strips

DMX512 colorful light strips also have incomparable advantages, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1. DMX512 light strips can achieve more complex functional effects, through the arrangement of address codes, and the cooperation with the DMX512 system

2. DMX512 signal data transmission frequency is higher, anti-interference is stronger, and it is suitable for more high-end application places

3. DMX512 is dual signal transmission, which has the function of breakpoint transmission. The damage of a single IC will not affect the operation of the entire light strip

Where to use them ?

SPI Magic Light Strip: Due to its high-speed and flexible communication method, SPI Magic Light Strip is more suitable for occasions that require fast response and precise control, such as interior decoration, smart home, etc.

DMX512 magic light strip: Due to its long-distance transmission stability and anti-interference, DMX512 magic light strip is more suitable for large-scale stage lighting systems, outdoor landscape lighting, and other occasions that require long-distance transmission and complex control.

In general, SPI has a higher cost-effectiveness and a variety of styles. Conventional projects can use SPI signal light strips; DMX512 fantasy light strips have more stable performance and are more suitable for high-end projects.

Therefore, compared with SPI color light strips, DMX512 color light strips are more advanced. If your project has higher requirements for quality and stability, or you want to achieve more complex control, it is recommended to use DMX512 color light strips.
