Caso di studio a luce lineare a LED per sauna personalizzata: dal test del campione alla produzione

In June 2026, a customer requested customized LYM1407TC LED linear light samples for a sauna lighting project. The light needed to match the customer’s existing control system and installation requirements, including a non-standard cable length and DC connector.

After approximately two months of testing in the intended installation, the customer approved the product for volume production. Based on the sample evaluation, the cable length was increased from 0.8 m to 0.9 m, and three mounting clips were added to each light. This case study explains how the project progressed from the initial inquiry and customized samples to installation testing, specification adjustments, and a production-ready LED linear light configuration.

The Initial Inquiry and Project Requirements

The project began in early June 2026 with a short inquiry:

The customer’s initial requirements included a DC12V LED linear light, 3000K warm white output, IP67 protection and a custom cable length.

Although the message was brief, the requirements were already quite specific. The customer had identified the application, input voltage, color temperature, IP rating, and the need for a non-standard cable length.

This gave us a clear starting point. Rather than selecting a general-purpose LED linear light, we needed to confirm whether our existing product platform could match the customer’s sauna installation and control system.

The cable requirement was particularly important. As the project developed, it became clear that the LED linear light needed to connect directly to the customer’s existing sauna control system, making the cable length and connector type part of the product specification rather than a minor accessory detail.

Sauna lighting also requires more than a standard indoor LED fixture. The lighting system must be evaluated according to its installation zone, operating temperature and humidity exposure, together with its low-voltage input, moisture protection and component temperature ratings. An IP67 rating indicates protection against dust and temporary water immersion under defined test conditions, but it does not by itself confirm that the light can operate continuously at temperatures of 100°C or above.

Key LED Linear Light Specifications for the Sauna Project

The custom LED linear light was configured with DC12V input, 3000K warm white output, Ra90 color rendering and IP67 protection. Cable length and connector type were also defined according to the customer’s control system and installation layout.

For a broader overview of temperature, moisture protection, color temperature and installation considerations, see our guide to sauna LED strip lights.

Together, these requirements established the electrical, optical, environmental and connection specifications for the customized sample.

COB LED Strip Used in the Linear Light

The LYM1407TC linear light used the 528-12-10-14-3000K-5-IP20 COB LED strip as its internal light source. The IP20 rating applies to the COB strip before assembly, while the completed linear light was configured with IP67 protection according to the project requirements.

During production, the Striscia COB was installed inside the aluminum profile and covered with transparent sealing material. The completed assembly, rather than the bare COB strip, was then supplied for installation testing.

DC12V Input for Control-System Compatibility

The customer required DC12V input because the light would connect to an existing sauna control system. Confirming the voltage, polarity and connector configuration before sample production helped ensure electrical compatibility without changing the customer’s existing power arrangement.

3000K Warm White: Selected for the Sauna Interior

The customer selected 3000K warm white for the sauna interior. This color temperature produces a warm visual effect that complements wood surfaces and is generally more suitable for a relaxing environment than cooler white light.

IP67 Protection for the Humid Installation Environment

The internal 528-12-10-14-3000K-5-IP20 COB strip was not supplied as a bare strip. It was assembled into the LYM1407TC linear light with the profile, diffuser, cable connection and protective construction required for the finished IP67 configuration. In this case, IP20 describes the internal COB strip, while IP67 describes the completed linear light supplied to the customer.

IP67 addresses moisture and dust protection but does not by itself confirm suitability for high ambient temperatures. The finished product must also be evaluated according to its rated operating temperature and actual installation position in the sauna.

However, an IP rating does not define heat resistance. Product suitability must also be evaluated according to the rated operating temperature, installation position and distance from the sauna heat source.

Ra90: Better Color Rendering for Interior Materials

The final specification used Ra90 LEDs to reproduce the colors and textures of wood and other interior materials more naturally than a standard lower-CRI lighting option.

These specifications established the basic configuration of the LED linear light, but electrical and optical specifications alone were not enough. The product also needed to connect correctly to the customer’s existing sauna control system. That made the cable length and connector type the next details to confirm.

Confirming the Custom Cable and Connector Requirements

After reviewing the initial requirements, we first discussed our standard LED linear light configuration with the customer. The customer then clarified one of the most important integration details:

The customer confirmed that the standard cable was too short for the installation and requested a 0.8 m cable with a 5.5 × 2.1 mm female DC connector.

This clarification turned the project from a standard product inquiry into a customized configuration. The LED linear light itself could meet the basic lighting requirements, but the cable and connector needed to match the customer’s existing sauna control system.

0.8 m Custom Cable Length

The customer specified a 0.8 m cable for the sample rather than using the standard cable length. For an integrated product such as a sauna cabin, cable length affects how easily the light can be routed from its mounting position to the control system.

At the sample stage, 0.8 m was the customer’s requested starting point. The cable length was not treated as a fixed production specification yet—it would later be evaluated during the customer’s actual installation testing.

5.5 × 2.1 mm Female DC Connector

The customer also specified a 5.5 × 2.1 mm female DC connector to connect the LED linear light to the existing control system.

For this project, the connector was therefore part of the functional specification rather than simply an accessory. The correct connector type and polarity needed to be confirmed so that the sample could be tested with the customer’s existing system.

With the custom connection requirements confirmed, we could move to the next stage: preparing samples for evaluation.

Following installation testing, the final configuration used a 0.9 m cable while retaining the same female DC connector, and three mounting clips were added to each light.

Preparing Custom Samples for Installation Testing

After confirming the product specifications, cable length and connector type, the customer decided to begin with two customized samples for evaluation.

Before sample production, we provided a model-specific specification sheet for confirmation. Because the cable and connector configuration differed from the standard product, the estimated sample lead time was approximately 10 days.

The completed samples were then sent to the customer for installation testing. Over the following two months, the customer evaluated the lights in the intended sauna system, including their electrical compatibility, cable routing and mounting arrangement.

The purpose of this stage was not simply to confirm that the lights could operate. It also allowed the customer to identify practical installation details that needed to be refined before the final production configuration was approved.

What Changed After the Installation Test

After approximately two months of installation testing, the customer retained the original electrical and optical specifications but adjusted two practical installation details before approving the production configuration:

  • The cable length increased from 0.8 m to 0.9 m.
  • Three mounting clips were added to each unit.

Cable Length: 0.8 m to 0.9 m

The 10 cm adjustment may appear minor on a specification sheet, but it provided additional routing allowance in the final installation. This illustrates why cable length should be verified in the actual assembly before a customized lighting product enters volume production.

Three Mounting Clips Added per Unit

Three mounting clips were added to each light in the final production specification. Their inclusion was confirmed after the customer evaluated the mounting arrangement during sample installation.

The important point was that the sample was not treated as the final specification. It gave the customer an opportunity to evaluate the product first and refine practical installation details before committing to a larger quantity.

With those adjustments confirmed, the project was ready to move from sample validation to volume production.

From Sample Approval to Volume Production

After approximately two months of sample evaluation, the customer approved the revised LYM1407TC configuration and placed a volume production order in mid-August 2026.

At this stage, the focus shifted from testing to finalizing a production-ready configuration. The core product requirements remained unchanged, while the practical adjustments identified during sample testing were incorporated into the final specification.

What Buyers Can Learn from This Custom LED Linear Light Project

A custom LED linear light should be evaluated as part of the complete installation rather than as an isolated product. Voltage, polarity, cable routing, connector compatibility and mounting details can all affect how efficiently the light integrates into the customer’s final system.

1. Confirm the Electrical and Connection Requirements Early

Before ordering a custom sample, confirm how the LED linear light will connect to the existing system. Voltage, connector type, polarity, and cable requirements should be defined before the sample is prepared.

2. Test the Sample in the Actual Installation

A specification that looks correct on paper may still need adjustment after installation. In this project, sample testing identified a small but practical cable-length adjustment before production.

3. Treat the Sample as a Validation Stage

A successful sample does not necessarily mean that every detail should remain unchanged. The sample stage can be used to refine installation details before the production configuration is finalized.

4. Lock the Final Specification Before Production

Once testing is complete, confirm the final electrical, optical, connection, cable, and mounting requirements before manufacturing begins.

FAQ

Conclusione

This sauna lighting project demonstrates how custom samples can be used to verify both product specifications and practical installation requirements before volume production. The original DC12V, 3000K, Ra90 and IP67 configuration remained unchanged, while installation testing led to a longer cable and an updated mounting arrangement.

For custom LED linear light projects, cable routing, connector compatibility and mounting details can be just as important as voltage, power and light quality. Confirming these requirements in the actual installation helps establish a more practical and clearly documented production specification.
