Philips Surge protection devices
The Philips surge protection devices are the ideal solution to the challenge of using LEDs in outdoor lighting. The SPD protects the complete system against high surges that can occur due to, for example, lightning strikes. Essential for LED systems installed in high-risk areas, the advantages of using the SPD are not limited only to LED systems. The product can be used in any new or existing lighting solution, regardless of technology. A choice can be made between parallel SPDs (if SPD is broken, light remains on) and serial SPDs (if SPD is broken, light will switch off.
Surge Protective Devices for LED Lighting
Our LED Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) are designed to reliably protect both indoor and outdoor lighting systems. They shield LED drivers and fixtures from lightning strikes, voltage surges, and transient overvoltages, helping ensure stable operation and a longer service life. Using a hybrid MOV + GDT design and meeting IEC 61643-11 / EN 61643 standards, these SPDs deliver fast response times, low residual voltage, and excellent durability. Compact and easy to install, they are available in both AC and DC versions, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, including linear lights, tube lights, shelf lighting, street lights, and façade illumination.
LED Surge Protective Devices Applications
LED Surge Protective Devices (SPDs) ensure stable and reliable operation of lighting systems in all environments — from outdoor street and facade lighting to industrial facilities and tunnel projects. Outdoor and architectural LEDs often face lightning strikes and power fluctuations, while industrial sites experience surges from heavy machinery, and long cable runs in highways or tunnels increase transient overvoltage risks. Installing the right SPD protects LED drivers and control units from both common-mode and differential-mode surges, helping extend lifespan, reduce maintenance costs, and keep lighting systems running safely and efficiently.

Other Surge Protection Solutions
SignliteLED offers a comprehensive range of surge protection solutions beyond LED lighting applications, including photovoltaic (PV) and industrial power supply systems. Designed to protect sensitive electrical equipment from lightning strikes, transient overvoltages, and grid disturbances, these SPDs ensure stable performance and long-term reliability for solar inverters, DC circuits, and AC power distribution panels in commercial and industrial environments.
How Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) Work
A Surge Protection Device (SPD) functions as a safety barrier that prevents transient overvoltage from damaging electronic systems. When a voltage spike occurs—caused by lightning strikes, switching operations, or grid disturbances—the SPD instantly diverts the excess energy to the ground through components such as MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors), GDTs (Gas Discharge Tubes), or TVS diodes.
In LED lighting systems, SPDs protect drivers and fixtures from failure; in photovoltaic (PV) systems, they safeguard DC circuits and inverters; and in industrial power supply networks, they stabilize critical electrical infrastructure.
By combining Type 2 and Type 3 protection, SignliteLED’s SPD solutions ensure long-term reliability, minimize downtime, and extend the lifespan of electrical and lighting equipment.
