Đèn LED dải bảo hành so với tuổi thọ: Hiểu L70B50 giờ và bảo hành năm

giống như chử Dải đèn LED warranty and its rated lifetime measure two different things. A lifetime rating such as L70B50 at 50,000 hours estimates lumen maintenance under defined test conditions. A 3-, 5- or 7-year warranty defines what the manufacturer will do if an eligible product failure occurs during a specified number of calendar years.

This explains why two LED strip lights can have the same L70B50 lifetime but different warranty periods. The longer-warranty product may use different components, operating current, thermal design, encapsulation or quality-control procedures. However, the difference may also be commercial, involving pricing, compensation methods or warranty exclusions.

A longer warranty is therefore not automatic proof of a longer LED strip light lifespan. Buyers should compare the product specifications, test basis and written warranty terms before choosing between different ranges.

LED Strip Light Warranty vs Lifetime: The Key Difference

An LED strip light lifetime rating describes expected light-output maintenance over operating hours. A warranty defines the supplier’s commercial responsibility during a set period.

How it is expressedOperating hoursCalendar years
Typical referenceL70, L80 or L90, sometimes with a B valueWritten warranty terms
Main conditionsTemperature, drive current and test basisProduct model, installation, use and exclusions
What it does not guaranteeFailure-free operation of the complete systemUnchanged brightness throughout the warranty period

A 50,000-hour lifetime rating does not mean the LED strip will stop working at hour 50,001. Likewise, a five-year LED strip light warranty does not necessarily guarantee five years of unchanged brightness or cover every possible failure.

The practical rule is simple: use the lifetime rating to evaluate expected lumen maintenance and the warranty policy to evaluate commercial protection.

What Does L70B50 Mean?

L70B50 combines a lumen-maintenance threshold with a population statistic.

  • L70 means the LED light source maintains 70% of its initial luminous flux. It represents approximately 30% lumen depreciation—not a 70% loss.
  • B50 describes a median population result. It is a statistical value, not a guarantee that every LED will perform identically.
  • The stated hours represent the projected operating time associated with that condition under specified test conditions.

For example, L70B50 at 50,000 hours means the evaluated LED population is projected to reach a median lumen-maintenance level of 70% after 50,000 operating hours under the applicable conditions.

It does not mean that every LED will deliver exactly 70% output at that time, nor does it guarantee that every component in the complete LED strip lighting system will operate without failure for 50,000 hours.

L70B50 does not directly describe failures such as:

  • dead LEDs or non-functioning sections;
  • damaged PCB traces;
  • failed solder joints;
  • faulty connectors or wiring;
  • adhesive failure;
  • silicone yellowing or cracking;
  • water ingress and corrosion;
  • power-supply or controller failure.

This distinction is important because two LED strips can have the same lumen-maintenance rating but different levels of complete-product reliability.

How Are LM-80 and TM-21 Used?

LM-80 is an Illuminating Engineering Society test method for measuring changes in the light output and color characteristics of LED packages, arrays or modules under controlled conditions.

TM-21 uses qualifying LM-80 data to project long-term lumen maintenance. It can estimate when an LED light source may reach a level such as L70, L80 or L90.

LM-80 provides measured data, while TM-21 provides a projection. Neither method alone determines the warranty period or tests every component in an installed LED strip lighting system.

The relevance of a lifetime claim depends on factors including:

  • the LED package tested;
  • operating current;
  • test temperature;
  • test duration;
  • sample size;
  • how closely the tested conditions represent the finished product.

Buyers should therefore ask whether the lifetime data applies to the specific LED model and operating conditions used in the product being quoted. The Illuminating Engineering Society provides an official TM-21 tool and standards resources.

This Cree Lighting video explains how LM-80 test data and TM-21 projections are used to assess LED lumen maintenance—not the lifetime of the complete product. For LED strip lights, buyers should also review operating conditions, component reliability and written warranty terms.

Why Can Two LED Strips Have the Same L70B50 but Different Warranties?

The same L70B50 rating does not prove that two LED strip lights have identical construction, failure rates or warranty coverage. It only establishes a lumen-maintenance statement under defined conditions.

The difference between warranty ranges may be technical, commercial or a combination of both.

Market positioningthuộc về thương mThe same product platform may be offered with different service packages or prices

1. Different Components

Two strips can use LEDs with similar lumen-maintenance claims but different PCB materials, resistors, soldering processes, adhesives, connectors or encapsulation.

These differences may not change the declared L70B50 value, but they can affect complete-product reliability.

Buyers should ask whether the longer-warranty range uses a different LED package, PCB specification, adhesive, connector or waterproof material.

2. Different Operating Current

Driving an LED at a lower current generally reduces electrical and thermal stress. A more conservatively driven strip may therefore have a lower failure risk even when its declared lumen-maintenance rating is the same as another model.

When comparing products, do not look only at brightness. Compare:

  • power per meter;
  • LED quantity per meter;
  • current per LED or circuit segment;
  • luminous efficacy;
  • PCB temperature under normal operation.

A strip producing high brightness from fewer LEDs may place more stress on each LED than a design that distributes the load across more components.

3. Different Thermal Design

Heat affects lumen depreciation, color stability, solder joints, adhesive and surrounding materials.

Two LED strips with the same L70B50 rating may operate at different temperatures because of differences in:

  • power per meter;
  • PCB width;
  • copper specification;
  • component spacing;
  • mounting surface;
  • aluminum profile;
  • airflow around the installation.

An appropriately selected Hồ sơ nhôm LED can assist with mounting, protection and heat transfer. Our guide to choosing the right LED profile explains how strip size, power and installation affect profile selection.

4. Different Encapsulation and IP Construction

For outdoor, humid or exposed installations, the encapsulation and sealing system may have a greater influence on actual product life than the LED’s lumen-maintenance rating.

Potential failure points include:

  • cable entries;
  • connectors;
  • cut ends;
  • end caps;
  • joints between materials;
  • damaged silicone or coating;
  • trapped moisture and condensation.

Two products may carry the same L70B50 value but use different waterproofing methods or materials. Buyers should compare the complete IP construction, not only the printed IP rating.

Our article on why outdoor LED strip lights fail explains the effects of water ingress, UV exposure, corrosion and poor heat dissipation.

5. Different Testing and Quality Control

A longer warranty may reflect greater confidence based on production controls rather than a different L70B50 rating.

Relevant controls may include:

  • incoming component inspection;
  • soldering and PCB inspection;
  • powered ageing;
  • electrical and photometric testing;
  • waterproof testing;
  • batch identification;
  • failure analysis and return records.

However, general statements such as “strict testing” are not enough for a professional comparison. Buyers should ask what is tested, how long the test lasts and whether records can be traced to the supplied batch.

6. Different Complete-Product Failure Rates

L70B50 primarily concerns lumen maintenance. It does not fully describe the probability of complete or partial product failure.

A longer-warranty range may be designed to reduce failures involving the PCB, solder joints, connectors, encapsulation or other components, even when the LED light source carries the same lifetime rating.

Historical return and failure data may also give a manufacturer greater confidence to offer longer coverage. This data is commercially sensitive, but the supplier should still be able to explain which design and quality-control measures support the warranty period.

7. Different Warranty Conditions

Sometimes the products are technically similar and the main difference is contractual.

One warranty may provide full replacement, while another is prorated. A longer warranty may also impose stricter limits on:

  • daily operating hours;
  • ambient temperature;
  • compatible power supplies;
  • installation method;
  • indoor or outdoor use;
  • return freight;
  • labor and reinstallation costs.

It is therefore possible for a five-year warranty to provide more useful protection than a seven-year warranty with narrower coverage.

3. Technical Difference or Commercial Difference?

When two products have the same L70B50 lifetime but different warranty periods, one of three situations normally applies:

  1. The products are technically different.
    The longer-warranty product may use different components, lower operating stress, improved thermal design or more durable encapsulation.
  2. The quality-control confidence is different.
    The construction may be similar, but additional testing, ageing or batch control supports a longer commitment.
  3. The difference is mainly commercial.
    The products may share the same platform but have different pricing, remedies, exclusions or market positioning.

The warranty period alone cannot identify which situation applies. The supplier should provide a model-specific explanation.

How Can Buyers Verify the Difference?

Distributors and project buyers can use the following questions when comparing LED strip light warranty ranges.

Question to askTại sao nó lại quan trọng
Do both products use the same LED package and bin specification?Identifies possible differences in the light source
Is the operating current per LED the same?Shows whether one design uses more conservative electrical loading
Are the PCB width and copper specification identical?Helps compare thermal and electrical design
Is power per meter the same?Higher power density may create more heat
Are the encapsulation and IP constructions identical?Important for outdoor and humid installations
Do both products use the same lifetime test basis?Confirms whether the L70B50 claims are directly comparable
Are ageing and quality-control requirements different?May explain greater warranty confidence
Is the warranty full or prorated?Determines the real compensation value
Are operating-hour and temperature limits the same?A longer warranty may contain stricter conditions
Who pays freight, labor and reinstallation?These costs can exceed the value of the LED strip

The most useful comparison combines technical specifications with the complete warranty document. Comparing only “50,000 hours” and “five years” leaves out the factors most likely to affect project risk.

How Many Years Is 50,000 Hours?

The calendar equivalent of 50,000 operating hours depends on how long the LED strip runs each day.

Daily operating timeApproximate calendar time
24 hours/day5.7 years
18 hours/day7.6 years
12 giờ / ngày11.4 years
8 giờ / ngày17.1 years

The calculation is: 50,000 ÷ daily operating hours ÷ 365

A five-year warranty covers approximately 43,800 operating hours in a continuous 24/7 application, but only about 14,600 hours at eight hours per day.

This is why lifetime hours and warranty years cannot be converted without stating the daily operating schedule.

How Should Buyers Choose Between Different Warranty Ranges?

The longest warranty is not always the best or most economical choice. The appropriate range depends on operating time, installation conditions and the cost of failure.

Ứng dụngMain risksBuying priority
Residential decorationLimited daily use and budgetSuitable output, safe power supply and clear basic warranty
Retail shelves and displaysLong runtime and visible color differencesLumen maintenance, color consistency and heat control
Signage and light boxes12–24-hour operation and difficult maintenanceThermal design, reliable power supply and replacement coverage
Outdoor architectural lightingMoisture, UV, temperature changes and corrosionSealing construction, materials and installation protection
Contract projectsLabor costs, delays and customer claimsWritten coverage, batch traceability and supplier support

A premium warranty may be worthwhile when:

  • the LED strip operates for long hours;
  • replacement requires expensive access or labor;
  • project downtime creates commercial losses;
  • the installation is exposed to heat or moisture;
  • the customer contract requires a defined warranty period.

A shorter warranty may be sufficient for accessible indoor installations with limited daily use and low replacement costs.

What Should Buyers Request from an LED Strip Supplier?

Before approving an LED strip light, request documents for the exact model and configuration being quoted. Focus on the following:

  • Product specifications: voltage, operating current, power per meter, PCB construction and operating-temperature limits.
  • Lifetime evidence: the meaning of the declared L70B50 rating, relevant LM-80 data, any TM-21 projection and the basis for the B50 claim. Confirm whether the evidence applies to the LED components or the finished strip.
  • Reliability testing: relevant thermal, electrical, aging and environmental test results. For waterproof products, request evidence supporting the stated IP rating.
  • Compliance documents: declarations, certificates or test reports applicable to the destination market and installation. Check that they cover the quoted model and relevant product configuration.
  • Installation requirements: heat dissipation, maximum run length, power supply sizing and any restrictions affecting performance or warranty eligibility.
  • Warranty and traceability: written coverage, exclusions, remedies, batch identification and the claim procedure.

Compliance documents, lifetime projections and reliability tests serve different purposes. None should be treated as a substitute for the others—or for the written warranty. Ask the supplier to confirm how each document applies to the selected product.

An LED strip light’s rated lifetime and warranty answer different questions. L70B50 describes lumen-maintenance performance under defined conditions, while written warranty terms specify the manufacturer’s obligations if an eligible failure occurs.

Two LED strips can therefore have the same L70B50 rating but different warranty periods. A longer warranty does not automatically prove a longer lifespan; compare the supporting data, installation requirements and coverage for the exact model.

For help selecting a SignliteLED strip light, share your application, operating conditions and required warranty period, and request the relevant datasheet and written warranty terms for the proposed model.
